Sun, Salt and Fine Furniture: What’s Happening Beside Our Shop – August 2025

What’s that Greenhouse Next to our Woodshop?

If you’ve driven down Log Cabin Road this summer, you may have noticed a large 30′ x 80′ Rimol Nor’Easter greenhouse rising beside our woodshop. We’re excited to share what’s unfolding.

A Local Partnership We’re Proud Of

Last winter, Huston & Company partnered with a small Maine business, Maine Salt Farm, to host their expanded production facility here at our Kennebunkport property. With the help of friends and neighbors—Noah of Franklepod Farm and Jim Hamlin— the site was leveled and prepped in spring. By June, the frame was set. In early August came the most satisfying step: pulling the greenhouse film up and over the spine.

Why This Fits Us

From our beginning in 1988, Huston & Company has valued long‑term relationships, community stewardship, and integrity in our work. Hosting Maine Salt Farm reflects those same values. Their commitment to sustainability and craft mirrors our own approach to making fine custom furniture for homes, libraries, and institutions.

“We proudly embrace a coast‑wide generational shift in best practices in order to preserve a healthy planet, strengthen our communities, and leave a brighter future for our children.” —Maine Salt Farm
