We recently had the chance to visit the home of a longtime Huston & Company client, Heather MacLean. In addition to living in a beautiful, light-filled space with several pieces of our cherry furniture, Heather also owns a boutique of curated Maine-inspired goods in downtown Saco called Whimsical ME. Thankfully, she graciously opened the doors to both her home and her shop for us to take some photos of each space.
Heather’s collection of Huston & Company furniture began with the purchase of this Balance Coffee Table years ago when she was living in an older farmhouse. The cherry table is the perfect accent to her new living room’s neutral palette.
A set of six Shovel Chairs surround a custom Wilson Table in her dining room, just off the living space. The table’s inlay visually complements the lines and angles in the Shovel Chairs.
Heather knew she wanted a set of stools with backs for her kitchen island, so she settled on our Camden Stools. The profile of the stools fit the size and scale of the island perfectly.
Heather had Bill design a custom console table using a leftover piece of stone from her kitchen countertops. The table serves as the anchor in a perfectly styled hall vignette, accented by a trio of colorful artwork by John Kraft and a Thos. Moser foot stool.
A pair of JP End Tables are used as nightstands next to a queen Duo Bed. In a bedroom as serene as Heather’s, the cherry in the furniture provides just the right amount of warmth and color needed to balance the space.
Most of Heather’s days are spent with two of her shop dogs at her store on Saco’s Main Street, Whimsical ME. Here, she displays and sells the work of a variety of Maine-based artisans who champion our state and the region of New England through their goods. Sailcloth bags from Sea Bags, Stonewall Kitchen jams & jellies, and Seawicks Candles are featured alongside various pieces of art, jewelry, gifts for dogs, ceramics, and wood accessories.
Heather has built a life around supporting the artisans and makers of quality Maine-made goods. From the furniture she chooses to fill her own home, to the items she stocks and sells in her shop, Heather is a true enthusiast of Maine and its many talented makers. We feel so fortunate that she has chosen to include so many pieces of handcrafted Huston & Company furniture in her daily life.
