A few months ago, we were honored to be asked to design, build and donate a bookcase to hold a full collection of books and audio works by renowned author Dave McCullough, as part of a fundraising event for the Louis T. Graves Memorial Library here in Kennebunkport.
This special event, featuring a talk by the Pulitzer Prize-winning author, David McCullough, will be held at the Kennebunk River Club Casino on Thursday, June 14th. The event begins at 5:30.
The bookcase, built by Saer and Bill Huston, is solid cherry and features wenge inlay on both sides. It measure 66”H x 26”W x 13”D and has four adjustable shelves. The bookcase, along with the collection of all of McCullough’s works in print and audio, will be raffled at the event on June 14th. Raffle tickets are $25 per chance or $100 for five chances and are available for purchase at Graves Memorial Library. Only 200 raffle tickets will be sold.
McCullough, author of The Greater Journey: Americans in Paris, will talk about the late nineteenth century and the intellectual legacy bestowed on many Americans who spent time in Paris during that period. Artists Abbott Graves, benefactor of the Library, and Louis Norton, whose murals grace the Library, were among those who studied in Paris during these years.
A few of McCullough’s other award winning works include: The Path Between the Seas (1977), Truman (1991), John Adams (2001), and 1776 (2005), all published by Simon and Schuster. David McCullough has also presented and narrated scores of documentaries and films for television.
Tickets for “An Evening with David McCullough” will go on sale the morning of the event, at 9am, at Graves Memorial Library. Event tickets are $50 per person.Seating is limited for this rare, special event.
